THE PLAN
Every Monday I will post the reading for the week ahead. It will be about 10 chapters a week. You might want to read a chapter or two a day, and catch up at weekends. If there is a verse that especially spoke to you, a question that you have, or a thought that struck you, please share it with your fellow travellers by making a comment.

This will change your life
Only just started today but loving seeing that repeated idea in chapter 1 that what God says happens! Then God said...and that is what happened...and what happened was good.
Great to be spotting the promises fulfilled in Jesus e.g. Chapt 5 v 29 and called his name Noah, saying, “Out of the ground wthat the Lord has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.”
A mirror. In Genesis 1, God makes man in His image, and out of his Love (not 'Let there be' but 'Let us make'), to be with Him... In Genesis 2, God makes Eve in His image out of Adam, to be with Adam, and when Adam sees Eve, his response is one of love: 'At last!'
Also: If these Genesis words seem stale or too familiar, why not try a different translation? I'm reading them in the ESV for the first time, and there are things popping out on every page... Could be the Spirit too!
Got a handful of questions about some of the details in Gen 1-11 and wondered if anyone has any books/articles/websites that might give a few pointers.
Definitely some hard foundational stuff to fathom in these early chapters. I'm making a list of questions, and would be good to echo Clare's request for help with resources to work through in some kind of forum
It's amazing reading these chapters in a week and getting an overview. Yes you really have to put your questions to one side somewhat at this kind of speed.
I found it helpful though to see how the LORD operates on a cosmic (creation), global (flood) yet also personal level (breathing life into Adam, making clothes for Adam & Eve, sparing Noah). We can't reach up to him in pride (it's almost comical how "God came down" in Babel account when they think they have built a massive tower) but he does come down to us.
I'm struck by the stark contrast between God and man that we see in these early chapters. God made man, his breath giving us life, and the first thing he does is bless us. Man on the other hand, having been deceived, is described (6:5 and 8:21) as having a heart full of evil intention. Also encouraged that the Noah story isn't a 'happily ever after' fairytale, some old fictional morality fable where everything is black and white. Despite being the only man that found favour with God, Noah was flawed and sinful too - the pattern of God using flawed people to achieve his purposes, great encouragement.
Would echo Clare and Howard's question on questions...
Mine are around how we should understand/ interpret the lifespan of the early descendents of Adam, and whether the Nephilim are what gave rise to Greek and other mythology...
I’ll try and find some helpful things to post re longevity and re the Nephilim.

Try this. It’s a suugestion that I have always found most plausible.
