THE PLAN

Every Monday I will post the reading for the week ahead. It will be about 10 chapters a week. You might want to read a chapter or two a day, and catch up at weekends. If there is a verse that especially spoke to you, a question that you have, or a thought that struck you, please share it with your fellow travellers by making a comment.

The following insight from Dale Ralph Davis reveals the urgency of loving intent behind the familiar words of Psalm 23:6 (Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life). He writes "...the usual translation 'follow' is too tame for the verb - it should be 'pursue.' It is a common Hebrew verb frequently used of pursuing enemies, whether, for example, Pharaoh pursuing Israel (Exodus 14:8,9), or Israel pursuing Midianites (Judges 7:23,25). Here David puts a playful spin on the verb. He says that what will 'pursue' him will be Yahweh's 'goodness' and 'faithful-love'. David says it's as if Yahweh has his two special agents he sends out, 'goodness' and 'faithful-love' and these agents are in pursuit of David, seeking to overtake him, waylay him, and dog his tracks 'all the days of his life.' But who needs to fear such beloved denizens." How wonderful to have a God who 'pursues us' with his goodness and faithful-love!

Psalm 27 v 11''TEACH ME YOUR WAY O LORD, LEAD ME ON A LEVEL PATH''.

This verse has been a lifeline to me through this lockdown so far. Every time I've felt on an emotional rollercoaster, the Lord has steadied me with this verse. He has faithfully kept me on a level path and I praise Him so much for that.

Something I really loved this week is how Psalm 22 is majorly a Jesus psalm. And the words "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (repeated on the cross) are so chilling - but also thrilling, because we need never say them. God never forsakes his people. We may be afflicted (Psalm 119:75) but we are never forsaken, because Jesus was forsaken by God in our place.

Thank you so much for sharing that Charlotte. Yes, how Glorious to know that we will never be forsaken, because Jesus went there for us at the Cross. I often meditate on that fact. How our Almighty Heavenly Father could turn His back on His beloved Son for you and me and all mankind? Indeed chilling and thrilling.
Thanks be to our Precious Saviour, Lord Jesus. Sending love.xxx
