THE PLAN

Every Monday I will post the reading for the week ahead. It will be about 10 chapters a week. You might want to read a chapter or two a day, and catch up at weekends. If there is a verse that especially spoke to you, a question that you have, or a thought that struck you, please share it with your fellow travellers by making a comment.

Wow. Just wow. Extraordinary chapters. Can there ever have been a finer last sermon. Two things struck me. First, the time spent on warnings of ‘curses for disobedience’ relative to assurance of ‘blessings for obedience’ (take chapter 28 for example: blessings (14 verses) and curses (54 verses)). Moses (through the Lord) knows his people, and does everything possible to warn them. (It left me wondering if we get this balance right today - do we spend enough time warning each other of the dire consequences of abandoning the gospel?). Second, the people’s obedience will falter, and Moses knows it (envisaged in 30:1-3, confirmed in 31:16-18, 31:20-21, 31:27-29, 32:15-18). The promised judgment and disaster will come on them. With the benefit of hindsight, we can see that actually the whole sermon cries out for a better way: one who will come and solve the problem of their disobedience. In short, Jesus.

Thank you for that Richard. What you said was much in my mind last evening, when a neighbour came with me for her 1 st time to the Carol service. She enjoyed the carols, but her response to Jesus was so negative. She was adamant that the Bible is totally unreliable.I was grateful that Ian T.had a good chat with her at the Methodist church.
So this morning, with Deuteronomy and all Moses warned, ringing within me, I longed to read about God's Wonderful Salvation & so hoped we'd be in John's Gospel.
Just settled to the Jesus Book, and HURRAH!----John 1,is before me. THANKS BE TO GOD FOR HIS AMAZING GRACE IN CHRIST.
